“The cure for the pain lies in the pain.”
About Laurie
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
My own journey of healing and transformation has significantly shaped who I am as a psychotherapist. My father died when I was young, and that experience profoundly altered my life. Later, as a young adult, I underwent a severe health crisis that prompted me to question the deeper nature of reality. These two pivotal experiences served as doorways to discovering my life’s greater purpose.
I have been a San Francisco Bay Area psychotherapist for over twenty years. I received my MS in Counseling from Dominican University and my BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado, with a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies.
In addition to my private practice, I worked as a clinician and supervisor in a hospice setting for ten years. I also have extensive experience working with children, teens, and young adults in schools and community mental health settings.
For over 25 years, I have studied somatics (body-oriented therapy), mindfulness, and intuitive development under various teachers. I began my career by offering biofeedback but moved away from this modality when I discovered other approaches that didn't require technology and were equally effective. Since then, I have studied a variety of somatic theoretical orientations, that engage gross motor to fine motor movement to energetics.
I have participated in numerous silent meditation retreats with Frank Ostaseski and Adyashanti, and programs through the Spirit Rock Meditation Center. I have also delved deeply into mysticism, which has profoundly shaping my belief system. I have experienced firsthand that there is vast support beyond the veil of what we can see and understand! This inner knowledge has brought me incredible peace and freedom. I am inspired to help others tap into this Wisdom that lives in all of us.
I am fluent in Spanish, and I have travelled extensively.
In 2023, I moved from the San Francisco Bay Area with my husband and son to rural upstate New York to live more simply and in greater congruence with my deepest values.
